Unity / Ironsource ROAS Campaigns not Spending

Hi everyone!

I've been facing a little bit of issues lately getting my Unity and Ironsource ROAS campaigns to the daily spend I'd like.

I know that using MAI campaigns together with the ROAS ones might get more learnings on the ROAS and get them to spend quicker, but that's not an option - as that would drop too much too quickly my blended RPIs.

I've also tried to lower the D7 ROAS goal and adding more adformats and creatives in rotation, which seems might be the way to go.

I was wondering though: do you guys have any other tip/trick to fix this kind of issues?

Thanks!

I recommend trying D0 campaigns on top of the D7 in order to add more volume without losing quality.
Running CPI campaigns in unity is literally throwing the money out the window

I wouldn’t fully agree that CPI campaigns are just burning budget.
Thanks to an initial CPI campaign, you’re able to later launch ROAS campaigns.

In countries like Tier 3 and Tier 4, where ARPU is low, you can generate profitable traffic from CPI campaigns, while ROAS campaigns often don’t perform well.

When it comes to campaigns on ironSource, there is a lot of fraud and it’s easy to burn through the budget. Besides that, the platform seems to be shrinking rather than developing.

in my experience, I never got performance with CPI and I only used them to unlock ROAS as you said, that's all.

I agree with the campaign steadily going down too

ROAS campaigns are available straight away for accounts that are already spending high enough on other apps, which is my case.

Also, for tier 3 and 4, the problem with CPI campaigns is that they struggle to spend in my case, and if you A/B test a ROAS campaign VS a CPI one, with the same exact bid (meaning that you bid at the same CPI the roas one is bidding), the ROAS campaign outperforms each time the CPI one. To make CPI campaigns worse, they usually also have a quite higher % of fraudulent installs, which eventually raises additionally your CPIs.

CPI campaigns work on a small scale, but when you look into spending 5 figures per day (and even 4 figures per day), they aren't worth the money you spend, or they simply can't spend.

Just my 2 cents.

In my case, in Tier 3 and Tier 4 countries, even when I bid high ROAS targets in ROAS campaigns, I’m not able to achieve positive ROAS. However, with CPI campaigns and relatively low ARPU, I’m still able to stay profitable.

In the end all comes down to how you monetize those users, and on the whole UA setup you have in place. It's not the same doing UA for trial-based, IAA or IAP. For us D7 ROAS campaigns for IAP perform better than even the most traditional channels on ROAS, but still bring lower RPIs - so things tend to balance a bit!
